Animal Community
Animals in Disguise (K-3)
Students create their own camouflage tour exposing the tourist to camouflaged animals. The animals that are on this tour are a combination of animals that are already classified as those that use camouflage for either protection or for hunting as well as fictional animals that the students create.

Virtual Zoo (3-6)
Students explore the relationship of animal habitat and compatibility, design a virtual zoo, make decisions about the size and habitat type of each animal, and create multimedia projects showcasing the animals they select for their zoo.

Technological Blueprints (K-3)
Students learn the basic elements of architecture by exploring and creating shapes, colors, patterns, textures and building aesthetics and apply this knowledge by creating their own magical community.

Building Bridges (3-6)
Students learn about the importance of bridges and their use in our society. Students visit and research many Web sites to discover the world of bridge-building and then use drawing and painting programs to develop layout plans for use in building actual bridges with simple materials.

Old MacDonald's Farm (K-3)
Students begin the project by learning about different farm animals, what their babies are named, and what sounds they make. Students then create multimedia projects that present the animals, the sounds the animals make, what their babies are called, and what these animals give us.

Creating a Virtual Art Museum (3-6)
Students study different forms of art and create a QuickTime virtual reality panorama of artwork in their own community. Each group then links their virtual panoramas together for a community artwork tour.

A Story Around the Campfire (K-3)
Students review basic principals of storytelling and elements of fiction, create storyboards, capture images with digital cameras or a scanner, and write stories about their family or family history. The story should include a relationship and bridge to family history and cultural influence.

Cultures Around the World (3-6)
Students discuss and research the cultural diversity that exists in their own heritage. Students take their research and create a multimedia presentation showing the different cultures that make up their personal heritage and extend the presentation to include the different cultures in their own community.

For the Birds (K-3)
Students learn about migration and track the migration habits of a particular bird species. Students also incorporate information or art that helps to explain how birds fly.

Moving On (3-6)
Students create a presentation that displays their ancestral movement away from their homeland and the settlement of a new community. The students research their cultural history and begin to apply problem-solving skills to help answer why emigration happens and how different cultures work together to form new communities.

Direction Connections (K-3)
Students learn directions and orienteering by using maps created and placed on iBook computers. Students take the map on the iBook and use the visual hints to navigate around a given course. Once students understand how to utilize a map and associated objects with directions, they work to create their own challenging map with visual clues for other students to try.

Mapping It Out (3-6)
Students work together in groups to create a virtual country and a virtual map of the country. The map will include many elements of traditional maps along with new digital technology including directions of how to get to this country, by car, from the school.
