ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT

Candi Fowler, Assistant Principal, Center Woods Elementary School

candi fowler Ben Augello and Candi Fowler are the administration team for Center Woods Elementary School. Center Woods has 665 students in grades pK - 4 and was built in 1990. In 2001, we were able to create a computer lab for students and staff and in 2002 we hired our first computer teacher. This is a big step towards our goal of integrating technology into the classroom. We believe that technology should not be a subject taught in isolation but something that enhances the academic learning already happening in the classroom. We are dedicated to finding and offering professional development in all areas, especially technology. We believe that our staff is made up of "experts"" in many different areas and we use them to give workshops and seminars whenever possible. Another strength of our school is its dedication to the SAU #24 and NEC Partnership. We have worked hard to create a strong relationship with our partner schools and to share resources with them. We continue to look for opportunities that help all partners as well as share information about professional development workshops.

Christine Rand, Technology Coordinator for Center Woods Elementary School

Christine Rand My name is Christine Rand and I am the Technology Coordinator for Center Woods Elementary School in Weare, NH. I started this job at the end of September, 2002 and have been working with the administration and teachers in developing an integrated technology program. We have a lab with 27, Windows 98 based computers with Internet access. In addition, each classroom has a Windows based computer with Internet access. We also have 3 digital cameras and one digital video camera that are available for all teachers to use. The vision that Center Woods has for technology is forward thinking. We do not view technology as a separate subject to be taught. Instead, technology is seen as a tool to be used constantly by students, like a pencil. My role is to help teachers incorporate technology into their curriculum. To help them use the technology every day, not just for special projects or “games”. I assist the classroom teachers when they are in the lab with their class. I teach computer applications, trouble-shoot computer problems, and conference with the teacher about what he/she is doing in the classroom and help the teachers to see how technology can be used to enhance what they’re doing. I provide the same support to the teachers when they are back in their classrooms. The goal is to have teachers automatically include technology in their lesson plans as an integral tool, not something that they have to “fit in”. The teachers at Center Woods are embracing this concept and are moving forward with it every day.
