Teaching Practice Human Transport Systems: An Electronic Collection of Student Work PARENTAL ENGAGEMENT
Parent Information Letter
The Weare Schools are trying out a new software package that will help keep examples of student work on the computer and to be stored via an internet site. The PLP: Personal Learning Planner, the electronic portfolio site for student work, to which all teachers and students could eventually have access, will be explored by a limited number of teachers this spring as a pilot project in conjunction with the SAU #24/ New England College partnership.
In order for your child to participate, we need your permission for us to store your child's work (documents, picture files, audio files, movies of him/her engaged in learning activities, etc.) in a secure internet site. No personally identifying information will be stored except first names, the teacher's name, and the grade level.
We will also be documenting this new teaching process as a way to show other teachers how to use the PLP (the Apple Exhibit Practice Project). This means we will want to videotape, photograph, collect samples of your child's work, and talk with your child as a means to telling the story. All parents will be given an opportunity to view the final documentation product.
The final documentation product will be hosted on an Apple website that you can visit. To see what the website is now, please put aliapple.com into the url space on your web browser. This site is visited most often by teachers, those learning to become teachers, and those who are interested in viewing innovative teaching strategies.
It is through important work like this, where we learn new strategies to help both students and teachers. Thank you for your consideration and please call the school if you have further questions.
