The National Leadership Institute
In December 2002, SETDA hosted the first national Leadership Institute (NLI) where state participants worked hand-in-hand with research and evaluation experts, and U.S. Department of education staff to produce the SETDA National Leadership Institute Toolkit-States Helping States Implement No Child Left Behind. During the NLI, participants carefully examined five sections of the act:
Scientifically Based Research,
Technology Literacy Assessment,
Common Data Elements,
Evaluating Effective Teaching and
The National Education Technology Plan.
Toolkit Chapter Summaries
In Chapter 1, there is a set of essential questions and answers for states needing to develop a statewide scientifically based reasearch program, along with steps to help get them started.
When discussing technology literacy assessment in Chapter 2, the NLI Technology Literacy Assessmen Work grou created a set of criteria and a contextual framework tied to performance indicators for measuring technology literacy.
In Chapter 3, the common Data Elements Work Group makes a recommendation to the U.S. Department of Education about what common data elements should be collected to meet requirements of Title II, Part D of NCLB.
In Chapter 4, there is a matrix outlining assessment strategies developed by the Effective Teaching with Technology Assessment Work Group.
In Chapter 5, state leaders set out to identify a set of key compnents essential to building a National education Technology Pllan (NETP), including identifying themes, recommendations and stakeholders.
