African American Contributions
NBCT Glenn Rustay teaches fifth grade students in Florida about African-American people and history. Students research famous African-Americans, complete Internet activities, and use their research to create HyperStudio multimedia projects to present to their classmates.

Around the World with Cinderella
In this exhibit, NBCT Patricia Holliday from North Carolina entices her third grade students into the world of fairy tales by reading and comparing twelve versions of Cinderella from all over the world. They use presentation software to share their findings with classmates and parents.

Awesome Area
In this exhibit, Florida NBCT Angela Gentry introduces the concept of area to her third grade students. By relating area to the items in the classroom, she activates her studentsŐ prior knowledge of multiplication arrays. Large-group lessons and hands-on activities provide multiple paths to learning for these students.

Baby Signs for Pre-K Children
In this exhibit, students in a Pre-K special needs classroom in Florida are taught Baby Signs and sign approximations to enhance communication skills. NBCT Nancy Taylor creates iMovies of the children engaged in everyday classroom activities and uses these iMovies to stimulate conversation with the use of signs and word imitations.

Brown Bear and Beyond with Pre-K
In this exhibit, Florida NBCT Nancy Taylor uses the books Brown Bear, Brown Bear and Polar Bear, Polar Bear as models for books and iMovies about her special needs Pre-K class. She makes a class book, Mrs. Taylor's Class and an iMovie to stimulate conversation and questions in her class.

Circles, Stars, and Candy Bars: Multiplication with Second and Third Graders
In this exhibit, NBCT Julie Cox teaches her second and third grade North Carolina students to multiply using games, manipulatives, and an Internet Web quest. Her students respond to these activities with interest and increased knowledge of multiplication facts.

Colonial Times
Watch as fifth grade students in Florida NBCT Glenn Rustay's class learn about the Colonial Times in this fun unit on the life and times of the early settlers/colonists in America. It starts with a KWL chart, continues with research and creating HyperStudio projects and ends with a Colonial Celebration, including a full spread of colonial food, presentations, games and costumes.

Continuing Herstory: Great Women in Science and Engineering
NBCT Carolyn Gilbert from North Carolina uses the impetus of a local essay contest to ignite her fifth grade students' interest in women's contributions to the fields of science and engineering. Her students use the Internet and library resources to craft essays about famous women scientists, learning about their lives and achievements.

Energy Explorations
In this exhibit, students in NBCT Kim Dutton's third grade class in Florida learn that energy is all around them in different forms. In cooperative learning groups, they explore various forms of energy and teach the other students using HyperStudio.

Foster's Fantastic Frog Pond
Second graders in NBCT Kim Thomas' North Carolina classroom explore the exciting world of frogs through integrated lessons in reading, writing, math, and science, culminating in a virtual frog dissection.

A Great Beginning with PowerPoint
Fourth grade gifted students in NBCT Joyce Rosales' Florida classroom use PowerPoint for the first time as they create story maps about the first book in the Series of Unfortunate Events books, The Bad Beginning.

Inspired by Egypt
In this exhibit, NBCT Rosalyn Pollard from Michigan uses multiple forms of technology to help her special education middle school students do research, create webs and outlines, and write narratives about life in ancient Egypt.

Kindergartners Write Every Day
Join Colorado kindergarten teacher NBCT Joy Warner as she launches a daily writing routine in a half-day kindergarten program using the mini-lesson, work period, and closure format. Teaching and learning expectations for both students and teacher are explicitly shown and described, as well as formal and informal assessment practices. Included are specifics of how to organize materials and supplies for writing.

Let The Stars Shine
Kindergarten students in NBCT Maureen Porter' s Colorado class study the concept of same and different as they present themselves to their classmates. Students practice oral presentation skills, active listening skills, and computer skills as they compare themselves with their classmates using Kidspiration and Venn Diagrams.

The Magic of Multiage
Debra Jackson and Robbin Vonder Bruegge from Mississippi share how they researched and planned the creation of the multiage classroom: the curriculum, the classroom routines and teaching techniques for the first/second grade class.

Making Better Readers Through Reading, Writing, and Technology
Students in NBCT Renay Ingram's Massachusetts sixth grade class designed their own multimedia slide shows to demonstrate "before, during and after" reading methods that enhance good reading skills.

Mayas, Aztecs, and Indian Civilizations
NBCT John Derr, a sixth grade teacher from Idaho, helps his students create PowerPoint presentations at the end of their Early Indian Civilizations unit.

The Name Game-Creating a Classroom Community
In this exhibit, NBCT Joy Warner from Colorado demonstrates how iMovie2 can be used to help her kindergarten students learn each othersŐ names and develop essential technology skills at the same time. Her students and their parents show their understanding of the importance of developing a classroom community and respect for each other within the school.

Patterns
In this exhibit, NBCT Jackie High from Florida integrates technology into her teaching of patterns. Kindergarten students learn this important skill through many fun activities.

Photographing Geometry
In this exhibit, NBCT Rose Sedely, a Learning Lab Resource teacher from Florida, demonstrates how to collaborate with classroom and technology teachers within a school to help second grade students learn essential technology skills. With the help of fifth grade mentors, her second grade students reinforce their knowledge of shapes and create informative slide shows with the use of a digital camera.

Pigs, Pigs, and More Pigs
In this exhibit, NBCT Sylvia McCabe, a Florida kindergarten teacher, demonstrates how she uses technology resources: word processing, computer draw programs, and Internet research in an integrated unit about pigs. Students are engaged in learning throughout the unit.

The Pirate's Treasure Box - Counting Coins
NBCT Barbara Renoux from Alaska teaches her multiage K-2 students to add and subtract coins through her mathematics and Character Education program. Her students learn to cooperate and work together as they earn coins, count and save money, and play games.

Plentiful Penguins
In this exhibit, Florida NBCT Sylvia McCabe demonstrates how she uses technology resources in an integrated unit on penguins. Her kindergarten students learn to use word processing and computer drawing programs. They use the Internet for research and present their projects to their classmates and their parents.

Poetry Sings with Early Readers
In this exhibit, NBCT Maureen Porter, a kindergarten teacher from Colorado, uses student-generated sentences to personalize a Song and Poetry Book. The students learn to copy and paste their sentences into the song page. These pages are an integral part of the early literacy instruction in this classroom.

Polar Expressions
Third graders in NBCT Kim Dutton's Florida classroom use the imagery and descriptive language of Chris Van Allsburg's The Polar Express as a springboard for writing about their own family's traditions. They then create a CD with their stories and drawings as gifts for their families.

Postcards to Learning
In this exhibit, NBCT Barbara Renoux from Alaska uses a beautiful teacher-made journal of postcards from Alaska to teach language arts, Internet research, history, and geography to her multi-age class of K-2 students.

Pre-K Meets Swimmy
In this exhibit, Florida NBCT Nancy Taylor and her Pre-K special needs class use Swimmy by Leo Lionni as a springboard for studying ocean life. They make multiple projects and use KidPix to create an animated fish slide show.

Properties, Properties
In this exhibit, NBCT Kim Stewart, from Maryland uses hands-on learning and an exciting slide show presentation to introduce her first grade students to the concept of properties.

The Shopping Webquest
Sixth grade students in a functional academic math program use laptops and the Internet to complete a teacher created shopping WebQuest. This special education teacher from Virginia uses technology to help his students find items of interest and use the Internet to gather data.

Space Station Idaho
NBCT John Derr's sixth grade class in Jerome, Idaho did a problem-based learning unit on Space Stations. Activities included planting seeds from space, researching and building a space station, and a visit from a mobile space station. A grant written by fellow teacher Bobbi Justice helped cover much of the costs of the equipment and space station visit.

Stop on Red, Yellow and Blue: Color in Art
Integrating the visual arts with technology, Massachusetts NBCT Barbara Marder helps fourth grade art students explore color theory. They look at Impressionist landscapes, use a color theory Web site, and apply their knowledge to their own creative artwork.

Surfing the Solar System
In this exhibit from North Carolina, NBCT Julie Cox helps her second and third graders investigate the solar system. They use Internet research tools, PowerPoint, a portable StarLab, and a classroom play.

Super Slide Shows by Little Guys
In this exhibit, Florida NBCT Nancy Taylor entices her Pre-K special needs students to explore new technologies to express themselves and develop independence. Five-year-old students use a digital camera, an iMac computer and KidPix Deluxe software to create slide shows with sound and transitions.

There's More Than One Way to Answer That Question
Colorado NBCT Maureen Porter and her kindergarten students use spreadsheets and manipulatives to develop number sense and addition combinations. Her exhibit shows the power of accomplished teaching on informal and standardized assessments.

Traveling to Mexico
In this exhibit, Idaho NBCT John Derr teaches his sixth grade students how to create a travel brochure as a culminating activity for their unit on Mexico. After doing extensive research using the Internet and traditional sources, the students demonstrate their understanding of the people, history, landmarks, and way of life in another country.

"Try Another Way" - Redirecting Inappropriate Behavior in Pre-K
This intriguing exhibit shows Florida NBCT Nancy Taylor using iMovie2 to help a student in her Pre-K special needs class control his behavior. This positive behavior intervention helps this child learn how to make friends and participate fully in his class.

We've Got Mail!
Colorado kindergarten students in NBCT Maureen Porter's class create stationary and send and receive mail in this engaging exhibit. They use word processing and KidPix to integrate language arts and social studies while communicating with family and friends.

Digital Photoessays
California NBCT Anthony Cody challenged his all-girl technology class to create photoessays using digital cameras and a variety of publishing applications. This exhibit shows the power of technology in an urban school.

"Gee, I'm a Tree" - Exploring the Five Platonic Solids
In this exhibit, students investigate, construct and draw the 5 Platonic Solids. By applying traditional constructions, measurement skills and craft techniques, students make the three dimensional models of the 5 platonic solids to display on the Gee I'm a Tree. NBCT Carol Martin from Florida presents the exhibit.

Inspired by Egypt

Under the direction of NBCT Mary Liz Towne, middle school students in Wisconsin investigate technology tools to decipher and learn from political cartoons. They learned to interpret the visual images of current political commentary and enhanced their understanding of the world.

A Presentation to the Sultan
Virginia NBCT Kim DiBiase presents high school students collaborating in groups to present a treaty to the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. From these presentations, students learn about the major empires in the world after A.D. 1500 The groups utilize the Internet and Microsoft PowerPoint to make their presentations.

Probing Ponds
Watch this technology-rich ecology unit as high school biology students from Oklahoma engage in an inquiry-based activity that investigated the environmental factors that can impact the ecological balance within an aquatic ecosystem. In addition, they created digital field guides for organisms that inhabit a pond ecosystem. NBCT Susie Stevens is the teacher.

Quilting and Geometry-Patterns for Living
In this exhibit, Idaho NBCT Jean Kriwox uses multiple forms of technology to introduce her sixth grade students to symmetry and tessellations through the use of quilt patterns. Her students explore the relationship between geometry and quilting to develop higher-order thinking skills. Using Web Quests, software, and multiple community resources, the students design and create unique quilt blocks.

Audio P.O.W.E.R (Paradigm of Writing Encouraging Reflection)
Students in NBCT Adam Kinory's high school Humanities class in New York City use radio on the Internet to listen to personal narratives and then create their own personal accounts for submission to NPR's sites.

"Fill 'Er Up" - Discourse and Decisions in Mathematics
In this exhibit, Florida NBCT Carol Martin challenges her tenth grade students to think critically about the volume of different cylinders made from 8 1/2 " X 11" paper. Conjectures are proved in a variety of ways using different tools and techniques. Discourse and observation during the demonstration allows her to check students' knowledge of many concepts and skills. Technology as a tool allows students to see data in a table and graphically so they can make predictions and pose rules. By developing technology skills, each student's ability to solve new problems is extended.

"Film at 11" - iMovie Makes Essays Come Alive
New York NBCT Adam Kinory teaches his students to write thematic responses to film by using QuickTime and Appleworks to embed clips into the discussion. In his exhibit, he provides detailed analyses of student work and its implication on instruction of students with diverse learning preferences.

NBCT Susie Stevens, a high school science teacher from Oklahoma, demonstrates the excitement students feel as they integrate many types of new technology into their science classes, projects and labs. This exhibit illustrates the numerous avenues that varied technological tools can be used as students use steps of the scientific method.

The Magic of Animation
NBCT Ann Ayers teaches Florida high school art students as they create animated films using the iLife applications. Follow the process of animating - the planning, drawing, filming, and editing. Watch as inanimate objects come to life in object animation, clay animation, and cutout animation.

Mingling at the Renaissance Ball
Virginia NBCT Kim DiBiase presents a world history lesson featuring students acting out the roles of prominent figures of the Renaissance and Reformation period. Students utilize the Internet and PowerPoint to help them to get into their roleplay.

No More Refrigerator Art! The Digitized Art Exhibit!
Florida NBCT Ann Ayers demonstrate how these high school students have "graduated" from hanging their art work on the refrigerator! Instead, they have each created a personal "digitized" art exhibit that showcases their best work in the Art 1 (Beginning Art) class.
