Thinking About Thinking: What Makes a Good Question?

STUDENT WORK

As a class project to demonstrate our learning, we have created nine Literature Units for primary level reading books which promote the critical thinking skills of interpretation, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. Each unit contains:

Vocabulary Section - list of 15-20 words from the book
Thinking Cap Section - 20 questions or prompts that require children to "use their heads"
Literary Section - a few questions or prompts pertaining to the elements of literature
End-of-Book Projects - suggestions for writing assignments or other projects that tie into the book
Internet Connection - a link to an Internet site that ties in with the story, plus a few questions or prompts to use while investigating the site
Fun Sheet - crossword puzzle, word search or interactive quiz

These Literature Units were created by fourth and fifth grade students in a Gifted Resource Class, for use by other students in second through fourth grades. Each complete unit is in Microsoft Word format and may be downloaded as a zipped file .
