Rainforest Virus Database
A rainforest species database to help your students research
rainforest viruses. Here are some tips to get the most out
of this database.6
- Its best to use this database as a tool, instead
of note cards.
- Discuss internet use hindrances in classroom- elicit
not enough time, too much useless browsing, plagiarism,
authenticity of info on sites, etc.
- Explain the concept of using the database as a tool
instead of merely as note cards.
- Open the database and explain that each field is
a subtopic and each record is a topic.
- You might want to assign some universal fields next
to each pop up, such as "Primary Reference Site,"
"Secondary Reference Site," "Site Validity" (to help
students measure info authenticity), etc.
- Have your students use their prior knowledge to
come up with several topics so that their research
is guided. Encourage students to summarize the information
so that it fits inside the field.
- Leave a few "free" fields for topics to be added
later as students discover interesting facts.
- Have your students reorganize the database so that
it correctly sequences their report information.
- Write the report first from the database notes.
